How I love this question!

Words are interesting things, as they allow us to construct images, perceptions, ideas and beliefs which can be shared with others that become shared consciousness. We are born into a world of words or codes, and these are our primary method of communication. At this stage of our evolution, we depend highly on these codes. I am sure will become redundant as our evolution develops.

We often unconsciously adopt beliefs which were formulated with codes/words without thinking them through. They may or may not keep us trapped. We also have free will and the ability to construct our own ‘codes’.
