My immediate response is breathing, deeply and slowly, whilst focussing on your breath and enjoying the sensations that it brings.
During times when events seem to be coming at me, one after another, I find that if I take a few moments and breathe deeply and quietly for about 5 minutes, I relieve tension and stress and can refocus priorities. I am able to see situations clearly and not be swept along with whatever is demanding my attention. In those moments I am able to take control of the situations around me and manage them on my terms.
There is a very good Abraham Hicks guided meditation that I listen to in the morning which also helps me to be in control of the day. It’s a simple meditation which allows you to breathe in and out for 15 mins. The impact is remarkable. The clarity is wonderful.
On another note, it is best to control your day before you start it. Before the priorities of other people take over, which is why I meditate in the mornings. Once momentum has taken hold, it can be difficult to slow it down and to some extent, you are going against the tide. Sometimes you need to ride it out and then try again tomorrow.
The best part is that you know that you can be in control and can work towards managing the experience.
